AFD × ARO – Walk and Ride for Water
Access to clean water is not just a basic necessity — it is a human right and a cornerstone of dignity. The AFD–ARO partnership empowers individuals to take meaningful action. Through community participation and fundraising, this initiative transforms lives by reducing the burden on families who spend hours each day fetching unsafe water. Each participant, donor, and supporter plays an essential role in creating lasting change for communities in need.
The Walk and Ride for Water event is designed as a family-friendly day of walking and cycling in major Australian cities, including Sydney, Melbourne, and Perth. Participants can choose their preferred distance and join either individually or as a team. The event not only raises awareness of the global water crisis but also directly funds the construction of water wells in rural communities. With every step and every pedal, participants help raise the essential funds needed to build sustainable water wells that provide clean, life-changing water to those who have none.
The 2025 edition of the event aims to raise AUD 50,000 — enough to fund the construction of ten new water wells. Each well brings relief to hundreds of people, reducing the spread of waterborne diseases and improving education and health outcomes. For example, a contribution of $250 can provide clean water for dozens of children, while a donation of $1,000 can meet the daily water needs of an entire orphanage. A full water well in Asia can be built for around $5,000, while in Africa, where conditions are more challenging, it costs approximately $6,500.
How You Can Be Part of It
Everyone can join the movement. Participants can register for the Walk and Ride for Water event in their city, create their personal fundraising page, and share their journey with friends, family, and colleagues. Those who cannot attend physically can still contribute by donating to the campaign or sponsoring others. Each action — walking, riding, sharing, or donating — helps build more wells, offering hope and dignity to thousands.
Our Shared Commitment
Through this partnership, Advocates for Dignity and the Australian Relief Organisation reaffirm their dedication to humanitarian values that promote justice, compassion, and human rights. Together, we are not just funding wells — we are building stronger, healthier communities and giving children the freedom to dream beyond the struggle for water.
