1000km Cycling Journey Supports Refugee Mental Health
In commemoration of Refugees Week, dedicated volunteers Suleyman Kaya, M. Emin Özçelik, and Abdullah Shakeel successfully completed a remarkable 1000-kilometre cycling journey from Brisbane to Sydney today. The cyclists arrived at their destination this evening, where they were warmly welcomed by the Advocates For Dignity (AFD) team. AFD President, Mehmet Saral, expressed gratitude and presented the cyclists with gifts to commend their outstanding achievement.

The proceeds generated from the cycling event will be delivered directly to refugee families seeking asylum in Greece. By focusing on mental health, the initiative aims to address the emotional challenges refugees face in pursuing a better life.
Reflecting on their experience, Emin Özçelik shared, “Throughout the 8-day, 1040-kilometre journey, we faced numerous challenges. It was a testament to our perseverance and the incredible support we received from AFD, Wisdom College, and other schools that made this extraordinary feat possible. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to everyone involved, including those who joined us during the journey. Special thanks go to our families who patiently supported us from afar during the past eight days.”
